Position: Diagnostician

 

Reports to: Executive Director, Corporation Psychologist(s)

 

Primary Purpose: Implement the special education assessment process. Assess the

educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to special education services. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities.

 

QualificationsMust be licensed or have degree in special education and have an understanding of the referral and testing processes.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special education students, human development, and learning theories.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Collect and organize relevant assessment data from student’s cumulative folder,

       classroom teacher(s), principal, support staff, parents, and outside resource                people.

  • Conduct classroom observations and personal interviews.

  • Administer, and interpret formal and informal assessments 

  • Be able to formulate intervention strategies and accommodations necessary for

       students to compete successfully in social, educational, training, or employment         situations.

  • Must be able to build rapport with the students being observed and understand

       the developmental steps of a child or an adult.

  • Is careful to note that in assessing tests, the individuality of a child is included wherein culture or ethnic factors should be taken into consideration.

  • Ensure required forms/signatures have been completed

 

Communication:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills for report writing 

  • Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.

  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.

 

Program Management:

  • Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and staff.

  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule and local board policy in the areas of assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.

  • Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.

  • Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job

       assignment.
